My wife's stroke happened in the dark early hours one December morning and our life changed.

As she struggled to recover and I struggled to help, I found myself writing fly-on-the-wall notes as a therapy. They were for me.

However, once the trauma had receded safely into the past the notes kept telling me they would like to be published, might even help someone else trying to cope with this kind of catastrophe.

I distilled them down to eight episodes, which work best if you read them in order. The first is inevitably bleak but gradually they get brighter, I promise.

Written on the Spanish island of La Gomera in the Canaries.

Your name caught by eye as we share it.
My father's stroke took us all by surprise and left us scared and fearful for him. He has recovered remarkably well and I wish you and your wife all the best.
